When it comes to marketing with video, we often read about those “one hit wonder” videos that explode virally on the web and think that in order to get a lot of traffic, we have to create something similar.
But that’s really not the case at all. Take a look at it in terms of baseball. You don’t have to hit the big home runs every time to win. Instead, you can succeed by hitting a lot of singles and doubles. Take our guest this week for example.
After launching his business ATailored Suit, Antonio decided he wanted to make his company more scalable; he wanted to head off questions he knew future clients would have. So he decided to build a massive online library about how to properly wear suits, dress shirts, sports jackets, and other professional clothing. In the process, Antonio has created over 250 videos, with over a million views, and 11k subscribers on YouTube! How did he do it?
The Key is Taking Action
Antonio is an action taker. As a former marine, he’s big on putting together a plan, but realizing that in the heat of action you sometimes have to deviate from that plan a little. He doesn’t let the little things sidetrack him. His focus early on was to create 200 videos in 200 days.
When he decided to start his video campaign, he and his wife set a budget of $2,000 for equipment. This included the video camera, a computer that was powerful enough for rendering HD video, a microphone, lights and video editing software. He gives a list of the equipment he recommends here.
Antonio has a family of 5 and they live in a 100 year old victorian house with an unfinished basement. In order to get his videos filmed, He would often wake at 4:30 in the morning and shoot his videos down in the basement before the rest of the family began to wake around 7:30.
He didn’t have the perfect circumstances by any means; no studio, no professional cameraman, no high speed teleprompter. Just a passion for getting good solid content out and willingness to take massive action to make it happen.
The result is, he now has over 250 videos, that have over a million views and climbing. He’s now able to cut back on the number of videos he produces. He can let off the gas a little on the videos because of the momentum he’s built.
So take this as a lesson, in your own marketing. You can build a huge following with YouTube by consistently putting out good content on a regular basis. Start with the tools you have. If you don’t have a budget of $2,ooo, use what you have. An iphone or an inexpensive Kodak Zi10 will do the trick. You don’t need professional studio lights. You can find good lights at a hardware store.
You can take Antonio’s strategy and apply it to your own niche for massive results.
Have a great weekend! 🙂
