Most people don’t know how to become an expert. In fact, most don’t even consider themselves an expert in their given field. I think that’s because people tend to undervalue what they know. I run into people all the time that downplay their knowledge base, as if everyone should know what they know.
My brother-in law owns his own home remodeling business. For the most part, they stay busy from referrals, but there are times when work can be slow.
I’ve mentioned to him on a number of occasions that he should capitalize on not only his labor but also his knowledge. Take Bob Villa for example. He earns a huge income from his personal brand as an home repair expert. He no longer has to drive a nail to make a buck.
That doesn’t mean he’s smartest guy in the home improvement industry. It just means he knows how to position himself as an expert. Local home improvement professionals (who probably know a lot more than he does) pay Bob a lot of money to be listed on his “recommended professionals” web page.
Jeff Steinmann Joins Us This Week on the Show
This week Jeff Steinmann of BraveauExperts.com joins us to talk about how anyone can turn their expertise into income. The key of course, is positioning yourself as that goto expert. Jeff did that in his own niche early on – The DIY industry, but over time found that more people were coming to him and asking him how they could do the same in their on fields.
On this week’s show, Jeff will be sharing his 5 Steps for Getting Known as an Expert in your field of interest. These include:
- Identifying your area of expertise
- Creating a business plan
- Creating something of value to give out
- Establishing an online presence
- And finally, reaching out to your existing network
We’ll also be taking more listener questions!
Buying Aged Domains
Jason wants to know what to do with a couple domains that he’s purchased. They are over 5 years old and one seems to still have plenty of back links and a potential for affiliate product sales if the site is built up. One of the sites is a Christmas related site and he’s looking for some ideas on what to do with it.
We’ll be sharing some ideas for this site as well as our opinion of buying previously owned domains that already have links pointing back to them.
WordPress Site or a Discussion Forum … or something else ?
Kevin is launching a site for baby boomers who are dealing with financial insecurity as they get closer to retirement. He wants to make it a community site where members can interact and share financial strategies with one another.
He’s wanting to know if WordPress is the best platform or if he should look at creating a forum with software like Simple Machines. My answer is none of the above and I’ll explain why.
We’ll have all of this and more!
Have a great week! 😀
