After recording almost 300 episodes, this one ranks right up there with my top 10 favorites. I really enjoyed listening to Matt share his story of success building Swim University – an online resource site for swimming pool and hot tub owners.
In this episode Matt shares some great advice for online marketer, especially as it relates to getting a lot more traffic to your site.
For years, Matt followed those SEO practices many of us have tried in the past – crappy articles with lots of keywords, link farms, article spinners, and on and on …
That all changed for Matt when Google put the hammer down a couple of years ago, and changed it’s algorithm.
Matt was listening to an episode of Pat Flynn’s podcast around that time – an interview with blogger Corbett Barr on “getting more traffic”; and his mantra was simple – “write epic shit”.
So Matt changed his approach to writing blog posts and articles on his site. He made them longer, added more illustrations and graphics, and started using captivating headlines.
The approach worked and his traffic began to climb.
He also launched his YouTube channel, giving him another creative outlet for creating a show on caring for your swimming pool or hot tub.
For one, it’s completely unfiltered. Not scripted or edited by any means. Many times, they’re having a discussion while knocking down a couple of cold beers. It’s authentic and genuine, and that’s the way Matt likes it.
In this fantastic interview, you hear Matt share some great takeaways like:
- Why you should focus on creating fun content that people will share, with illustrations & graphics, instead of wasting your time on boring keyword articles.
- How he makes passive income from a site that offers free information on pool and hot tub care
- How he creates fun “how-to” videos without much equipment aimed at helping people take care of their pool and hot tub
- And much, more!
Enjoy this episode and have a great week!
