Imagine what it would be like to turn something you have a real passion for into a successful business. That’s exactly what my recent guest did after he left the world of professional football. Football is a rough way to make a living. Those who are fortunate enough to make it to the highest level and compete on average have a very short career; so it’s important to have a plan for the rest of your life.
Jason Hairston joined me on my podcast show this past week to talk about turning his passion as an outdoor enthusiast into a successful company. Jason is a former NFL player who spent time with the San Fransisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos before launching Kuiu, a high-end outdoor apparel company.
After retiring from the NFL, Jason decided to trade in his helmet and pads for camouflage and reinvent himself as an outdoor guru. He didn’t have any experience in apparel previously; just a love for the outdoors and a passion for the best quality equipment.
You can listen to this episode here below:
Jason says they’re success is due to bringing some unique innovations to the market such as a water resistant down and a super light weight carbon fiber framed backpack. As an avid outdoorsman himself, Jason knows what is needed in the market.
On this episode, you’ll hear Jason share his story going from NFL player to outdoor guru. Jason will also be sharing some important marketing lessons for growing a startup like:
- How to build a remarkable brand by designing remarkable products
- How to use the principle of “scarcity” to grow your product sales
- How to create an effective word of mouth movement from your most loyal fans
- And much, much more!
