If done the right way, video is still a powerful way to market your business. People will share your marketing message if it’s designed in an entertaining way. Remember the 2012 Dollar Shave Club video? It went viral and led to 12,000 new subscribers for their service within 48 hours.
That being said, I had a blast talking with Josh York, founder and CEO of GYMGUYZ about their recent video marketing strategy a few days ago on my podcast. Josh is a consummate professional whose enthusiasm and passion shows when he talks about his company. You can listen to the interview here:
Last year, Josh came up with the idea of creating a parody video off of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”.
He loved the beat to the song, and as he worked out every day, he would listen to it and type out ideas for parody lyrics on his phone. Once he’d finished writing the lyrics, he and his team started storyboarding the video out.
Josh then hired a professional videographer who was able to shoot the video in just two days. Jo-Ann Houston, their vice president of franchise operations lip synced the video while many other team members participated by acting and dancing. The finished product was a fun video that everyone enjoyed putting together. And it turned out to be a huge success!
It was shared all over social media the first week it was launched, getting at least 800,000 views on Facebook alone. Josh says that they even had celebrities and professional athletes sharing the video on Twitter. All total, the video has had over two and a half million views and the viral effect of the video has even led to GYMGUYZ signing a new franchise deal in Houston, TX.
Josh, says because of the success they’ve had with this video, they are working on another that will be launching soon. It’s a parody off of MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This”.
On this audio interview, you’ll hear Josh talk about the process of creating this video from concept to launch. Josh mentions that the key to any successful video launch today is to be entertaining and fun; and music definitely provides an entertaining way for people to remember your message.
